Commissions open and the Cassie Giveaway!

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Ok, I have a little bit of time right now to do a few commissions. So all of the people who have emailed me in the past for a commission will have top priority.

So, anyhow, if you are interested, please email me at: pop (at) popmhan.com

THE CASSIE/BATGIRL GIVEAWAY…

Ok, so, in gearing up for commissions, I was playing around with some new markers the wife got me for Christmas. Awesome girl that she is! Anyhow, I drewed up a quick sketch of Cassie/Batgirl and played around with it a bit. Why Cassie? Well, I’ll miss drawing her… To be frank, I didn’t know anything about the character before I started drawing Batgirl and over the course of the run, I found her to be a very enjoyable character. Cassandra Cain, it’s too bad that her book got cancelled.

So, here she is. (Don’t mind the bad anatomy…) The fifth person to email me for a commission will get this sketch included in their request free of charge!

You can get a clearer view of the image in the messageboard.

Rock on!

It’s been a while, eh?

Well, I finished my run ob Batgirl. It was one of the more tumultuos runs of a comic I’ve had. There were some ups, some downs and some general craziness. I only drew 4 of the 5 issues I was slated to draw because of some family emergencies. I think this run made me a much better artist than before and I learned a lot from the experience.

I’ll kind of miss juggling books since it’s the hectic scheduling that forces you to push harder on your art and being in the “grind” makes you overlook things you’d normally be pulling your hair out trying to perfect.

Although, I usually judge my own work pretty harshly, I think that the Batgirl run wasn’t too bad. When I flip through the books, I often only see the mistakes I’ve made, but yeah, all in all, it wasn’t as bad as I previously thought. It’s still not “good”, but I’m fairly proud of the work.

Oh yeah, there were many spots in there where I was cringing and kicking myself in the ass for allowing the pages to be turned in. But such is life. Learn from your mistakes, etc…

So, what’s next? Oh yeah, there’s BLANK. The book that was supposed to be done, like a year ago. Slacker!

So, I’ll be putting forth all of my efforts to completing that in the next few months. Hopefully there won’t be too many distraction until after the book is completed.

Speaking of distractions, the basement at the new Casa de Pop Mhan is almost completed. When we first moved in to the new house, the basement was bare as can be, which was kinda nice. My brain was working itself into a frenzy thinking about what to build down there. At one point, the wife was actually going to let me sound proof one of the rooms to be built so that I could throw a drumkit down in thar! Suh-WEET! It’s been about 15 years since I played but there is nothing like banging on something to relieve stress! Oh, and y’know, the whole “I wanna be a Rockstar” thing…

Anyhow, that idea was scrapped relatively quick when the contractor showed us the bill. Keeee-rist! I would’ve had to get a third and a fourth job to pay for that booolshiet! These guys are out to getcha. So, to make a long story shorter, I’ve had to do some work down there myself so as to keep the bill somewhat manageable. I think we still got kinda screwed, but that’s probably the Asian blood in me speaking. “What???! I can get the work done for a dohl-rer in Thai-rand!!!! You try to sclew me, round-eye!!! I get my 1 bill-rion fami-ry members on you!!!”

Or something like that. Uh, oh. I think someone may be calling the politically correct police on me. Whatevah! I’ll do what I wahnt!

Whoooooooo, trying to start the New Year’s right! Zaniness, craziness and some wholesome fami-ry fun!

Gotta get back to the saltmines. TOKYOPOP is getting nervous about my scheduling abilities!

Hope everyone had a Happy Holidays! (Or is it: Had a Happy Holiday??) (Or is it: Had Happy Holidays??) …. This is why I draw for living…
